ArcheoTalk - Festa Manna di Gaddura 2018

ArcheoTalk is a short excursion to Monti Casteddu, with a guided tour of the archaeological park and, later, near the Capanna delle Riunioni of the nuragic village, open debate on the management of archaeological sites among researchers, institutions, companies and cultural operators. Participation is free and requires a reservation at 0796018959.

Good ideas for growing territories and communities from the archaeological heritage

In front of the Capanna delle Riunioni of the archaeological complex of Monti Casteddu archaeologists, University, Superintendency, local authorities and site managers discuss the theme of the relationship between archaeological heritage and land development. Luogosanto, which on the occasion of the great feast of Gallura proposes the country of the ancient sanctuary as the spiritual and cultural heart of this large portion of Sardinia, rightly hosts - thanks to the important historical and archaeological heritage that it holds and to research activities. didactics completed in the last decade with the involvement of the local community - a first public confrontation between some fundamental subjects in the area of the protection, promotion and management of archaeological sites. The event represents a new opportunity for discussion on the themes of the relationship between archaeological resources and local communities and continues the reflection recently launched in Serri with the initiative The countries of archeology, in which, at the invitation of the 'municipal administration and the University of Cagliari, some of the Sardinian archeology experiences more attentive to triggering connections between men and heritage were compared (on this occasion, among other things, the experience of Luogosanto was the only invited to represent the picture of northern Sardinia). Does it make sense, in times of crisis, to invest in archeology? Do research, education and protection of the archaeological heritage really serve the local communities? How can the different experiences of the territory be networked? Is there room for archaeological heritage in the tourist flows concerning Sardinia? What are the best ideas to promote communities and grow the territory starting from the archaeological heritage? The appointment is at 10.00 am at the Municipal Tourist Office in Piazza della Basilica, from where the short walk to Monti Casteddu and the guided tour of the archaeological complex will start. The visit will end right at the Capanna delle Riunioni, before which, almost like three millennia ago, the debate will take place.

The archaeological site

The archaeological and naturalistic park of Monti Casteddu is located on the plateau between the three granite peaks of Monti Gjuanni, Monti Ruju and Monti Casteddu. The nuragic village is one of the most extensive settlements in the territory of Luogosanto and consists of a nuraghe (on the top of Monti Ruju), a fortified hill (of which only a few meters of megalithic wall remain and an impressive collapse under the tip of Monti Casteddu ), a village of about ten circular masonry huts linked to mud mortar, to which are added tafoni (natural cavities of granite) used as dwellings or as burials. In the village emerges the "Capanna delle Riunioni", a masonry building of considerable size (about 10 m in diameter), whose characteristics show a special function of the building and the entire settlement as a role reserved for the meetings of the elders. From the excavation, the features of a community with an agro-pastoral economy emerged, evidenced by the type of ceramics used in the construction of the tools used for the preservation of cereals, milk processing, food cooking and spinning of natural fibers.

The excursion

Departure by foot is scheduled from the square of the basilica of Luogosanto. The course, of about 1 kilometer, takes place almost entirely on a country path, sometimes in rough terrain, with an uphill gradient of 100 meters, so a good physical shape, a supply of water and suitable footwear is required. Those wishing to participate only in the debate can reach the group at the Capanna delle Riunioni around 11.00 am following the road signs for the "Parco di Monti Casteddu" and parking the car at the entrance to the archaeological area. The guided tour will cover the remains of the nuraghe of Monti Ruju, the remains of the fortified hill of Monti Casteddu, the area of the nuragic village and the Capanna delle Riunioni.

ArcheoTalk is wanted and organized by the Municipal Tourist Office and the School of Archeology and Community of the University of Cagliari. For information: [email protected], Facebook: @LuogosantoTouristOffice, 079.60.18.959.
